Hiati
I apologize to my five readers for my prolonged blogging absence. My life now is more uncertain than usual. I must take leave from college until I am able to afford formal study in Austrian economics. During this time I will work, and I don't know for how long this hiatus will last. Soon I must begin discharging my student loans, which, although they went toward paying for the pseudo-mathematical blitherings of bad economists, still entail just as much obligation as if my debt had gone to good use. I must also begin discharging the debt I still directly owe Canisius, lest I be burdened with wage garnishments and other unpleasant burdens.
This hiatus from formal education is, contrary to initial appearances, probably a blessing. For one thing, almost all the truths I know I learned by myself on my own time, and almost all my idiocies I discovered in the classroom. How much more beneficial will my study be when not burdened by mandatory quantities of bullshit or limited by the difficulties of another? For another thing, keeping in mind the deleterious effects of years of continual exposure to modern liberalism and postmodernism, as seen by the mental derangement of those in the upper echelons of academia, a relief from such relentless buffetting by hippies cannot but contribute to my mental health.
In this uncertainty lays the opportunity to continue studying both Austrian economics and Torah cheaper and more efficiently than I could outside a pure Austrian curriculum. My expenses, excluding the discharging of my debts, are minimal. With a moderate portion of my income, I will be able to, steadily and at a surprising rate, purchase many of the texts I require. Within just the first month or two, I resolve to buy:
- A Stone Chumash
- A Classical Hebrew grammar book
- A Hebrew-English dictionary with Classical, Intermediate, and Modern definitions
- Hayek's "Law, Legislation, and Liberty"
- Rothbard's "Man, Economy, and State with Power and Market"
- Rothbard's "America's Great Depression"
- Rothbard's "The Mystery of Banking"
- Rothbard's "Conceived in Liberty" series
- Bastiat's "Economic Harmonies"
- Hazlitt's "The Failure of the 'New Economics'"
With regard to blogging, my recent hiati have been due almost entirely to the poor (1800 baud is not unusual) internet connection I have here, which combined with the trouble of only being able to go online in a kitchen full of leaping cats, prevents me from casual blogging.
